ABOUT

CyaTheCreator is a Denver-based artist, muralist, and community organizer whose work celebrates Black joy, resilience, and empowerment. Specializing in large-scale murals and mixed media, her art explores themes of social justice, beauty, and identity. As a community leader, Cya creates spaces for connection and healing through initiatives like Culture Movie Nights and the Kinship Arts Movement, a project that uplifts and supports Black creators in Denver.

Her Women in Environment series imagines the ecosystems Black women create, while her Folk series focuses on the beauty of the Black American experience. With Folk, Cya pushes against respectability politics, celebrating the bold, vibrant, and over-the-top aspects of Black culture that have historically been marginalized or misunderstood. The series honors the pride and uniqueness that comes with embracing one’s identity as a Black person in America, transcending gender and exploring the broader cultural narrative.

In addition to her visual practice, Cya serves as a Community and Youth Programs Coordinator in Aurora, Colorado, where she works with the refugee community to foster connection, empowerment, and creative expression. Through her role, she develops and leads programs that help youth explore their identities, build skills, and create positive change. Cya’s mission is to use art and community-building as tools for transformation, creating spaces where all people, particularly marginalized communities, feel seen, celebrated, and inspired.
